Dr Mahathir receives Global Islamic Leader Award at Wita 2023

SUBANG JAYA - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has received the Global Islamic Leader Award at the World Islamic Tourism Award (Wita) 2023, tonight.

In receiving the award, the former prime minister said the tourism and service industry was based on reputation and all Muslim operators in the industry should attain its values.

"Muslim tour operators would not just ensure halal food, they would ensure that what they consume is halal for them and their customers.

"This means that the operators won't be charging anything excessive or cutting corners if it's observed," he said in his speech after receiving the award at the Sunway Resort Hotel.

He added that the tourism industry would make Muslim tour operators more reputable.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir officiated Wita which was held for the first time, this year.

A total of 55 awards were given to those who have contributed to the success of the Islamic Tourism Industry.
