Respect PN Youth's rights to rally - Hassan

PASIR GUDANG - All parties must provide a chance and respect the rights of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth to hold the Save Malaysia Assembly on Saturday as it is allowed under the basic freedom of Article 10 of the Federal Constitution.
Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim said the public should not be worried as the participants ensured to keep their boundaries and prohibitions in check as they wanted to voice their unsatisfactory remarks for the government.
“Organisers have informed the police which eased the methods to ensure the peaceful assembly continues to run well.
“Let’s not violate the rules in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 such as not being allowed to assemble at petrol stations or train stations, but they were allowed to in areas that did not disturb public order,” he said.
He told reporters this after the Malaysia Day Celebration organised by the Johor Bahru District Small and Medium Enterprises and Traders Association at the Johor Borneo Market here on Saturday.
PN Youth in collaboration with an NGO in a statement said they would not budge from the decision to hold the Save Malaysia Assembly at the capital on Saturday.
PN Youth Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said their persistence was made considering a notice infoming police of the rally had been sent.
Hassan said the assembly should be continued and if it had gone against the rules actions should be taken if they had organised it for the sake of causing a disturbance.
He stated organisers must be responsible in any situation that occurs to ensure peace and public order are kept.
“We understand because several leaders and I in government have been involved in such assemblies like Bersih 1. We must think good of the party, they are citizens given their own rights and freedom.
“I have once become a lawyer defending the Bersih Assembly participants from the Johor Bahru Sessions Court to the Kuala Lumpur Federal Court. They were eventually released (from the court) for not performing any offence, but merely participating in an assembly,” he said.
