Gerakan criticises govt's 'walk the talk' claim

KUALA LUMPUR - Gerakan has criticised the claims made by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said that the current government ‘walks the talk’ as it was committed in the separation of power between the Attorney-General and public prosecutor to ensure integrity of the judicial institution is protected.

Its president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said Azalina's statement during the debate on the Mid-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) motion in the Dewan Rakyat was unfounded, self-deception and misleading to Malaysians.

Lau alleged that since Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) came into power, they have only deceived the people by not fulfilling their promises made during the 15th General Election (GE15).

"For nine months, the PH-BN government has been in power and they are still unable to address the rising cost of goods and safeguard the welfare of the people.

"The PH-BN government has also deceived the people by failing to provide freedom of speech to the people and the media. Is this what they call 'walk the talk’?,” he said in a statement today.

Lau also alleged that the PH-BN government was hypocritical in combating corruption.

He claimed that the government not only failed to investigate or prosecute corruption involving MPs, but has also let the court cluster slide.

"Not only that, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also said that he would allocate funds to opposition MPs first, but to this day, opposition MPs have not received any allocation, not even a single sen.

"So, Azalina's speech in the Dewan Rakyat today is a deception and an insult to the Malaysians," he said.
