KUALA LUMPUR - The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will implement the ‘Jualan Beras Rahmah’ in every parliamentary constituency across the country.

KPDN Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh said through the sale, the ministry would offer special prices to consumers.

She said the price of a five-kilogramme bag of rice in the Mobile Rahmah Sale is around RM13 to RM14, and KPDN would try its best to offer the same price in the Rahmah Beras Sale.

"So we will try to sell it at that price as well. If RM13 is the same as local, but we sell imported rice for the ‘Jualan Beras Rahmah’," she said after officiating the Today's Malaysia E-Commerce and Consumer Protection Regulatory Framework: The Way Forward seminar here, today.

Fuziah added KPDN wanted to ensure that those eligible would be able to buy the rice.

For example, she said, the Mobile Rahmah Sale was targeted at B40 areas, low-cost housing and People's Housing Projects (PPR) and so on.

"The mechanism moves to targeted areas, maybe it is a way for us to reach the people in need because the people who are most affected are the people I mentioned.

"However, for traders, the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry said they will take responsibility," he explained.

Fuziah said that the KPDN used the RM150 million Rahmah Sale allocation given by the government previously to succeed in initiatives that aimed to help reduce the cost of living for the people.

"At first we had RM100 million, but the Prime Minister added another RM50 million. Since we do not have access to local rice, we will give a price discount to imported rice," she said.
