BENTONG - Development issues to take centre stage for Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Kasim Samat, 62, better known as Cikgu Kasim, in the Pelangai by-election.

The Bentong Pas Deputy Chairman highlighted that one of the main areas of concern was the road infrastructure in the Pelangai state assembly constituency, which he described as less than satisfactory.

"I'm also confident that in the Pelangai state assembly, there will be a shift towards the green wave based on the current situation.

"When it comes to winning the hearts of the youth, most of them here are school students and silat (martial arts) enthusiasts...they are close to me," said Kasim, who is also the National Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia Association Chairman in Pahang.

A native of Felda Chemomoi and a former teacher at Felda Chemomoi Secondary School (SMK), he was met after the candidate nomination process at the Felda Kemasul Public Hall today.

Previously, Kasim also contested as a PN candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15), which was won by the late Datuk Seri Johari Harun in the Pelangai State Assembly constituency.

The Pelangai State Assembly by-election was called following the death of Johari on Aug 17, who tragically perished in a plane crash on the Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam.

In the last GE15, Johari successfully won the Pelangai State Assembly seat with a majority of 4,048 votes, defeating Kasim.
