Graft: Senior minister's former pol-sec remanded over RM80 million project approval

SHAH ALAM - A former political secretary to a former senior minister was among two people remanded on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes to approve a book printing project worth approximately RM80 million involving a ministry through direct negotiation.
A source revealed that the two men were believed to have been arrested yesterday at about 11pm after having their statement recorded at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Putrajaya.
"The first suspect who is a former political secretary in his 20s along with the second suspect who is a company owner in his late 50s were arrested at about 11pm when they were asked to provide their statement at that Putrajaya MACC office.
"Both suspects had reportedly conspired with the former senior minister to request and receive bribes through the second suspect's company from the contractor in return for approving the book printing project through direct negotiation," the source said, today.
The source said Putrajaya magistrate's court registrar Nur Adilah Halid allowed the commission’s application to remand the two suspects for four days.
"Both suspects were remanded from today (Saturday) until Sept 26," the source said.
Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the arrest.
"The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009," he said.
