BENTONG - Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah has condemned the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) alleged raid at the firm of lawyers acting for former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

It was reported earlier that the anti-graft watchdog raided law firm Rosli Dahlan Saravana (RDS).The enforcement officers had also allegedly attempted to raid the law office of Chetan Jethwani & Co, which also acted for Muhyiddin.

Saifuddin said that lawyers are officers of the court who are protected by the law and that their job is to help the court uphold justice.

He said that the search of their offices and questioning them using MACC as a tool is an abuse of power.

"The abuse of power over lawyers carrying out their duties to defend clients and uphold justice is another black spot in the history of the country's justice system," Saifuddin said.

Saifuddin, who is also the Indera Mahkota MP, said that both Rosli and Chetan represented Muhyiddin as defence lawyers in his case under Section 23 of the MACC Act and the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA).

"The High Court has made a decision to discharge and acquit Muhyiddin on charges under Section 23 of the MACC Act and described the prosecution of Muhyiddin as flawed, a misuse of the court process, and a miscarriage of justice.

"Muhyiddin's legal team has also filed an application in court to cancel the charges under AMLA," Saifuddin added.
