MELAKA - Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Melaka branch has established a strategic joint venture with several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to collect and distribute funds for the Palestinian people.

Its rector Associate Professor Dr Mohd Rasdi Zaini said the institution, through its Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FKPM) aims to collect RM10,000 as an initial contribution to help and support the cause.

"Our initial target is to provide assistance of RM10,000 and this effort will continue if we get the commitment of the campus fraternity comprising management staff and students.

"This is one of our efforts together with NGOs Cinta Gaza Malaysia, MyAqsa Defenders and Suspended Meal Association Malaysia to help the people in Palestine,” he said in a statement here today.

Earlier, he launched the ‘For Palestine’ programme here today.

Meanwhile, ‘For Palestine’ Solidarity Mission Head, who is also FKPM Senior Lecturer, Shafezah Abdul Wahab said that Muslims in Malaysia need to put aside their differences, especially in terms of political beliefs and background, in order to support the current struggle of the Palestinian people.

She said awareness and a caring attitude towards the ongoing conflict need to be inculcated in young people at the university level so that they do not become complacent and influenced by Western propaganda. - BERNAMA
