SHAH ALAM – Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan has raised concerns on the Islamic religious practices due to the growing presence of non-Muslim MPs and assemblymen with liberal and secular inclinations.

Fawwaz who is also Pas Penang representative said the elected representatives were responsible for shaping and enacting laws, including the Islamic laws.

He said this during his speech at the 69th Pas Muktamar at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC), here, today.

"Every aspect of life in Malaysia is governed by the law. The Constitution in Malaysia is administered by Parliament, the institution responsible for formulating and passing laws, both at the national level and within states through the assemblymen.

"So, if individuals who become MPs and assemblymen lack understanding on Islamic teachings and are non-Muslim, or adhere to secular and liberal beliefs, we run the risk of witnessing the creation and passage of laws that run counter to Islamic principles.

“This is what we mean by the potential threat to Islam in our country," he added.
