Putrajaya ambulance crash: Witnesses urged to come forward to aid in investigation

PUTRAJAYA - An ambulance carrying a patient was involved in a road accident after colliding with a car at the traffic light junction of Lebuh Bestari and Persiaran Perdana here yesterday.

Putrajaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Asmadi Abdul Aziz, stated that the incident occurred at 11.45pm when an Audi TT FSI Auto was travelling from Persiaran Perdana towards Masjid Putra.

He said that the car proceeded through the four-way traffic light junction at Lebuh Bestari towards Persiaran Perdana while the traffic light was green.

He added that an ambulance approached from the right intersection, signalling its siren and emergency horn.

"The car in the middle lane is believed to have lost control, failed to brake in time, and collided with the ambulance on the left.

"As a result of the accident, the ambulance overturned on the road, and the injured were promptly taken to Hospital Putrajaya for treatment," he said in a press release today.

Asmadi said that at the time of the incident, the ambulance was en route from Presint 18 to pick up a patient and was on its way to Hospital Putrajaya.

He further added that the vehicles involved in the accident have been taken to the Putrajaya district police headquarters (IPD).

He also said that they are in the process of obtaining the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera recording from the scene for investigative purposes.

Additionally, the police are urging any members of the public with information or who were present at the scene to come forward and assist in the investigation.

He said the accident was investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
