SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman reveals that its party successfully secured RM 1.1 million in funding for its campaign during the six state elections conducted in August.

According to the English portal FMT, the Muar MP revealed that the party initially aimed to collect RM1.5 million; however, they reached RM1.1 million.

Out of this amount, only RM858,252 was disbursed for their election efforts.

“The reason not all of the funds were used is that most of them came in at the last minute, and we knew it would not be wise to spend at the last minute for a seat,” Saddiq said.

He further said that the remaining funds are earmarked for future elections that the party intends to participate in.

Muda allocated an average of RM45,000 for each seat, despite receiving feedback from other MPs that this amount was too modest.

“But that was all we had,” he added.

However, during the previous state elections, Muda's 19 candidates in the state elections were all defeated, resulting in the loss of their deposits.

Regarding the audit report for the fundraiser held during the December 2021 floods, Syed Saddiq stated that around 45,000 donors collectively contributed RM2.1 million to the Maribantu Flood Mission.

“Despite encountering obstacles during the flood audit procedure, this audit continues to be of utmost importance.

“In an effort to maintain transparency, Muda has enlisted the services of a well-regarded firm ranking among the top 10, which audit was initiated in Sept 2022, and we anticipate its conclusion in the coming days,” he said.

When asked about Muda's inaugural party elections, Saddiq stressed their commitment to following the party's constitution in deciding the timeline for these elections.

While they aim to facilitate these elections as soon as possible, Party Secretary-General Amir Hadi previously announced in August that Muda's internal polls would take place by December 2024.

Amir added that it is a customary practice for political parties not to hold their inaugural elections immediately within the first year of their establishment.
