SHAH ALAM - Despite his alleged continuous absence in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) meetings, sources say Datuk Seri Azmin Ali remains steadfast with the party.

One source told Sinar Daily that there was “no way in the world” that the former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president would return and support his former mentor and current president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Claims of Azmin leaving Bersatu in favour of Anwar have slowly been creeping up following reports that at least nine of the party’s Members of Parliament were planning to pledge their support to the Prime Minister.

“Its good that they are leaving, it shows who is loyal to Bersatu and true to our struggles. We are able to get rid of the snakes.

“We know what is going on behind the scenes, all the politics... What’s happening is bigger than their excuses of allocation, they know it and we know it.

“Meanwhile, we at Bersatu have taken a stand and accept what the people’s choice. We are the opposition and we will carry out our duties as the opposition,” one of the sources said.

A source within Azmin's inner circle could neither deny or confirm the former Senior Economic Minister's move stating that the situation looked quite "fickle" at the moment.

However, he stood his ground when asked about returning to Anwar side; "I can’t really say anything about him. But I don’t think he will mend things with Anwar".

Yesterday, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik became the fourth person to have declared his support to Anwar and the Unity Government since last month. The other three are Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman and Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid.

However, Zahari said in a statement today that he was still loyal to Bersatu and remained a party member.

As for Iskandar, Bersatu disciplinary board had suspended him from the party for four years.
