KUALA LUMPUR - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's admission that he only used DAP to topple the administration of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in 2018 proves that the former prime minister was never sincere in joining hands with the party.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said this contradicts their party's stance, which aimed to collaborate with Dr Mahathir at that time to bring reform and progress to the administration of Malaysia after the 14th General Election (GE14) in May 2018.

Loke also mentioned that, at that time, DAP extensively discussed with Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition partners to secure agreement on this collaboration.

"We also sought the opinion of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was still in prison at that time. Initially, he was somewhat reluctant to collaborate with Dr Mahathir, but eventually agreed because he saw the need for a strategic alliance to consolidate influence and power, leading to the formation of a new government.

"And in 2018, it proved that the strategy was successful because, for the first time, Barisan Nasional (BN) was defeated. However, what happened after the formation of the new government, we regret because it did not fully achieve its objectives," he told reporters after officiating the Women's Safety Symposium in Transit and Transportation Industry at Bandar Sunway today.

He made these comments in response to Dr Mahathir's revelation in the podcast recording "Keluar Sekejap" with former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan yesterday, where Dr Mahathir admitted to using DAP and realising that DAP also used him to bring down Najib.

This revelation came after Dr Mahathir was questioned by Shahril about his seemingly inconsistent stance in dealing with DAP and Pas, as he was seen criticizing both parties at times but sitting together with their leaders at other times. - BERNAMA
