KEMAMAN - Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has been named as the Pas candidate to defend the Kemaman parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election.

The announcement was made by Pas Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man during the opening speech of the Pas Kemaman By-Election candidate announcement ceremony here tonight.

Samsuri, 53, who is also the Ru Rendang state assemblyman and Pas Vice-President, is expected to face former Armed Forces Chief Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, who has been announced as the Barisan Nasional candidate.

The Kemaman Parliamentary By-Election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26, which nullified the victory of Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The Election Commission has set this Saturday as the candidate nomination day, while early voting and polling days has been scheduled for Nov 28 and Dec 2, respectively.

In GE15, Che Alias won the Kemaman parliamentary seat with a majority of 27,179 votes, securing 65,714 votes, defeating Umno Terengganu Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who garnered 38,535 votes. This marked Pas’ dominance, winning all 14 parliamentary seats in the state.

The other two candidates who contested in the seat during GE15 were Rosli Ab Ghani (Pejuang) and Hasuni Sudin (Pakatan Harapan), receiving 506 and 8,340 votes, respectively.
