JOHOR BAHRU - Johor Police seized a total of 4.74 tonnes of drugs worth RM33.78 million and confiscated assets worth RM13.15 million from January to Nov 22.

Johor Police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that, during the same period, a total of 15,307 people were arrested by the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) for various drug offences.

He said the arrests, among others, involved 126 drug pushers according to the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act (LLPK) 1985.

"All the drug pushers will be placed under detention order and a two-year restriction at the rehabilitation centre.

"In addition, action was also taken against 592 individuals, comprising drug traffickers and addicts, under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Kamarul Zaman said the arrests were made as a result of the integrated action and operations to curb any trafficking and smuggling of drugs to neighbouring countries.

He said the operation included Op Tapis Khas, which was carried out periodically by focusing on hotspots like fishermen's jetty, People's Housing Project (PPR), Felda and known locations of drug addicts.

"Through Op Tapis alone, a total of 1,478 people were arrested throughout the operation for various drug offences,” he said,
