UMSC GP Symposium 2023 a platform for medical education

SHAH ALAM - UM Specialist Centre (UMSC) marks the success of its UMSC GP Symposium 2023 event as the first continuing medical education platform emphasising innovation in cardiovascular, endocrine, renal and gastrointestinal health.
Its Chief Executive Officer Norzaiton Senusi said as a leading quaternary care institution, UMSC remained committed to improve medical knowledge and upgrade health care services to patients.
She said general practitioners from the primary health industry were the link to specialist services available to treat patients who needed specialist care.
"In an effort to improve the performance of available health services, we will always encourage open communication on a continuous basis between hospitals and general practitioners.
"Better communication can also create a unified health treatment implementation ecosystem, where information is channelled efficiently for the benefit of patients," she said in a statement on Sunday.
The success of the UMSC GP Symposium 2023 was a starting point for UMSC to continue providing continuous education, sharing the latest innovations and collaborating for the overall health of the community.
UMSC brought together leading experts in the fields of cardiovascular, endocrine, renal and gastrointestinal at Avante Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
In addition, Norzaition expressed her appreciation for the dedication of primary medical practitioners whose tireless efforts and contributions were very important to the well-being of the public.
She also expressed UMSC's commitment to supporting and strengthening collaboration between primary health care providers and quaternary care facilities, in line with the main goal of improving the standard of health care implementation in Malaysia.
"UMSC has served as the main referral centre for more than two decades in continuing patient follow-up treatment and appreciates the support of fellow medical practitioners for trusting us," she said.
Among the important highlights of the symposium was the sharing by UMSC Cardiologist, Professor Datuk Paduka Dr Wan Azman Wan Ahmad on the exploration of mechanisms, management, and future directions in dealing with hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis.
UMSC Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Associate Professor Dr Sivakumar Krishnasamy briefed the participants on management of aortic pathology and Uniportal VATS in Thoracic Surgery.
UMSC Nephrologist Professor Dr Lim Soo Kun shared the best practices in kidney care with a special focus on managing the treatment of complex diabetes and renal damage.
