Pas urges Anwar to stop DAP's poisonous narrative

SHAH ALAM - Pas urges Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to control and stop the 'poisonous narrative' brought by DAP to avoid racial disharmony in society.

Pas Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the political narrative brought by DAP veterans was inappropriate and had the potential to cause tension and thus raise suspicions about the government's policies and direction.

"The latest narrative brought by DAP is the call by DAP Kuala Lumpur Chairman who is also Cheras Member of Parliament, Tan Kok Wai for the government to reinstate the local government elections in Kuala Lumpur.

"As a former member of the government in the previous Pakatan Harapan administration, Tan needs to be more aware and sensitive to the current government's stance and policies, not the other way around.

"But the statement is also a play by DAP and the Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming also plays an important role," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

On Sunday, it was reported that Tan proposed to the government to start local government elections in Kuala Lumpur to preserve and give people the choice to elect local councilors.

Meanwhile, DAP adviser Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang was also accused of causing a similar uproar when he spoke about a non-Malay Prime Minister and the dream of a great country with multiple races, cultures and beliefs in Manchester, England.

Commenting further, Takiyuddin said that Tan’s statement contradicted Lim’s rejection of the single ethnic political image which was at the heart of the dream of producing a non-Malay Prime Minister.

"With DAP's almost absolute dominance of the Parliamentary seats in Kuala Lumpur, won't the local government elections only reveal the image of single ethnic politics in terms of the elected representatives?" he questioned.

At the same time, Pas also claimed that their statements were motivated by the strengthening of DAP's position and dominance over the country's direction and progress.

Not only that, Takiyuddin said the evidence also ignored the core aspects that have been binding all parties to a more sane, moderate and reasonable political agenda and culture.

"This further confirms the concerns of many parties, especially the Malays about DAP's true intentions whether they are honest in upholding national interests and priorities or just prioritising ideological interests and parochialism," he said.
