BESUT - A resident of Kampung Gong Dasar in Jabi got a slithery surprise when he discovered three rat snakes lurking behind his kitchen shelf.

Besut district civil defence force officer captain (PA) Ramlan Ros Wahid, said that the man quickly contacted the authorities after spotting the snakes' tails.

"A team of five Civil Defence Force personnel swiftly arrived on the scene.

"Upon inspection, we found three snakes, each about two metre long, nestled behind the kitchen shelf," Ramlan told reporters.

It took the team about 10 minutes to safely capture the slithering residents.

While typically found in pairs, the presence of three snakes in one location has puzzled officials.

Ramlan suggested the recent rainy season may have driven the reptiles indoors seeking shelter.

The captured snakes were transported to the Besut Civil Defence office and will be handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further assessment.
