KLANG - Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu successfully defended his position as Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president for the 2023-2026 term in the party's leadership election today.

The Agriculture and Food Security Minister would be working with his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

The three vice-president positions were filled by Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and Adly Zahari.

In the previous election for the 2019-2022 session, Mohamad was appointed as the party's president, despite only being in the seventh-highest position to get representative votes.

The party's constitution stipulates that the positions of the five highest positions, including the president were determined by consensus by the 27 highest leaders who were elected by the delegates.

The constitution also ruled that a person can only be president for three consecutive terms.

It is understood that this poll would be the last term for the Kota Raja MP, popularly referred to as 'Mat Sabu'.

Earlier, Dr Dzulkefly obtained the highest votes in the Amanah polls’ Leadership Committee for the 2023 - 2026 session with 900 votes.
