KUALA TERENGGANU - For the first time in the new political era, the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly has no opposition after Perikatan Nasional (PN) successfully swept all 32 seats in the state election held yesterday.

This development undoubtedly marks a new chapter in the state's politics as the role of the opposition to provide checks and balances to the government is not applicable in this term.

The results of the Terengganu state poll saw PN, contesting under the Pas logo, not only winning all the contested seats but also recording victories with higher majorities.

Pas Terengganu had previously expressed high confidence in winning all State Legislative Assembly seats in this election.

When the political tsunami hit the country, including Terengganu, in the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 10 seats.

Among the 10 seats won were State Legislative Assembly Kijal, Seberang Takir, Langkap, Kuala Besut, Hulu Besut, Telemung, Batu Rakit, Bukit Besi, Permaisuri, and Jertih.

This time's results also saw two former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman losing to their respective opponents.

Ahmad lost to Datuk Razali Idris by a majority of 3,758 votes, after receiving 9,645 votes compared to Razali's significant win with 13,403 votes.
