SHAH ALAM - Harimau Malaya winger Faisal Halim's wonder goal at the 2023 Asia Cup in Qatar has ignited excitement among fans.

His father, Abdul Halim Saad has called for public support if the strike is nominated for the prestigious Puskas Award.

The 26-year-old's dazzling display helped the Harimau Malaya secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against South Korea's World Cup squad in their final Group E match last January.

Halim expressed his immense pride in his son's achievement, acknowledging both Faisal's individual talent and the significance for Malaysian football fans.

"Naturally, there's immense pride (in Faisal).

"But this award truly belongs to him and all Malaysian football fans. It's an unexpected honour for Malaysia on the Asian stage," Halim said while speaking to the media at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Halim, representing Faisal at an event for the newly established Faisal Halim DNA Football Academy, spoke alongside academy co-founder Derrick Gan ("red-haired brother") and furniture company Johan & Joann. The company has pledged to donate 10 percent of its sales proceeds to the academy.

On the Puskas Award nomination, Halim expressed hope for widespread support.
