KUALA LUMPUR - The Iftar@KL programme at Dataran Merdeka, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), provides opportunities for food truck operators around the capital to increase their income.

Food truck operators met by Bernama at the venue (Dataran Merdeka) said that their income has increased due to both increased sales and reasonable rental rates charged by DBKL.

"Over 1,000 cups of drinks were sold daily, providing relief compared to trading in Ramadan bazaars. Visitors also continuously stopped by to purchase food until late at night.

"The site rental is also not as expensive as in Ramadan bazaars," one of the food truck operators said.

Another food truck operator, Nur Aminah Shahida Yusof, 43, who sells fried food, said that the food truck business concept through the Iftar@KL programme is more profitable and organised.

"Here, we leave the truck when the business hours are over. We don't need to bring the truck here every day.

"The visitors also have a variety of food and drinks options because there are over 30 food truck operators trading here," she said.

Meanwhile, Norashikin Mihat, 46, said that the sales of drinks at her food truck were very encouraging to the point where she had to increase the sales volume every day.

"Normally, I would prepare 700 to 800 cups, but now I need to prepare at least 1,000 cups to ensure that every customer who comes can taste our coffee," she said.

Meanwhile, last night, the Iftar@KL programme caught the attention of visitors as Dataran Merdeka was illuminated with 200 lights in conjunction with the Night of 7 Likur. - BERNAMA
