The 97th Academy Awards brought glitz, glamour, and history-making moments as Hollywood’s biggest stars gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the prestigious ceremony.
The ceremony, held on March 2, brought together the biggest names in the industry, honouring outstanding performances, direction, and technical excellence.
The event featured electrifying performances, heartfelt acceptance speeches, and a few surprises that kept audiences captivated. This year’s Oscars showcased a remarkable mix of established legends and rising stars, making it a memorable night for film enthusiasts.

Several nominees made history, while others continued to cement their legacy in the industry. Kieran Culkin secured the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in A Real Pain, triumphing over Yura Borisov (Anora), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice).
The Best Animated Feature award went to Flow, surpassing Inside Out 2, Memoir of a Snail, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, and The Wild Robot. Meanwhile, In the Shadow of the Cypress won Best Animated Short, prevailing over Beautiful Men, Magic Candies, Wander to Wonder, and Yuck!.
Paul Tazewell’s exceptional work on Wicked earned him the Best Costume Design award, beating competitors from A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Gladiator II, and Nosferatu. The Oscar for Best Original Screenplay was awarded to Sean Baker for Anora, outshining The Brutalist, A Real Pain, September 5, and The Substance.
In the Best Adapted Screenplay category, Peter Straughan’s work on Conclave claimed victory over A Complete Unknown, Emilia Pérez, Nickel Boys, and Sing Sing.
The Best Makeup and Hairstyling award went to The Substance, besting A Different Man, Emilia Pérez, Nosferatu, and Wicked. In the Best Editing category, Anora, edited by Sean Baker, took home the award, defeating The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Pérez, and Wicked.

The Best Supporting Actress accolade was claimed by Zoe Saldaña for her role in Emilia Pérez, surpassing Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave).
Wicked also triumphed in the Best Production Design category, overcoming The Brutalist, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, and Nosferatu. The Best Original Song award went to El Mal from Emilia Pérez, while Diane Warren missed out on the win for the 16th time.
Other nominees included The Journey (The Six Triple Eight), Like a Bird (Sing Sing), Mi Camino (Emilia Pérez), and Never Too Late (Elton John: Never Too Late). In the documentary categories, The Only Girl in the Orchestra secured Best Documentary Short, and No Other Land won Best Documentary Feature, beating Black Box Diaries, Porcelain War, Soundtrack to a Coup d’État, and Sugarcane.
The Best Sound award was claimed by Dune: Part Two, prevailing over A Complete Unknown, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot.
The Oscar for Best Visual Effects also went to Dune: Part Two, surpassing Alien: Romulus, Better Man, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Wicked. The Best Live Action Short Film award went to I’m Not a Robot, outshining A Lien, Anuja, The Last Ranger, and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.
The cinematography category saw The Brutalist taking the win, edging out Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Maria, and Nosferatu. Brazil’s I’m Still Here emerged victorious in the Best International Feature Film category, surpassing The Girl With the Needle, Emilia Pérez, The Seed of a Sacred Fig, and Flow. British composer Daniel Blumberg’s work on The Brutalist earned him the Best Original Score award, outperforming the compositions for Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot.
The prestigious Best Actor award was won by Adrien Brody for his performance in The Brutalist, beating Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), and Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice).

Sean Baker secured the Best Director Oscar for Anora, outshining Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), James Mangold (A Complete Unknown), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance). Meanwhile, Mikey Madison won Best Actress for her role in Anora, surpassing Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Demi Moore (The Substance), and Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here).
Culminating the grand night, Anora was crowned Best Picture, beating an impressive lineup that included The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked.
