BERLIN - Two tourists in Berlin, who were defrauded by impostors posing as police officers, forced their scammers off the road during a car chase, according to the police.

The impostors pretended to be police officers in a supermarket car park on Sunday, approached the tourists and demanded identification, which the tourists handed over, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

They then accused the visitors of committing drug crimes and demanded they pay a fine.

The tourists showed the would-be cops a large sum of money - which the imposters then grabbed, absconded with and drove off.

But the Berlin visitors weren't having it. They jumped into their car and launched a high-speed chase of the pretend policemen.

As they hit the accelerator through the streets of the German capital, both vehicles drove into oncoming traffic multiple times, damaging a total of 14 uninvolved vehicles, according to the police.

Eventually, the tourists rammed the imposters' car from behind, causing another collision with an uninvolved vehicle.

The tourists ultimately forced the car off the road, leading to a physical altercation between the victims and the fake policemen, which was broken off by an actual off-duty police officer.

The tourists received medical attention and both cars were seized.

One of the suspects, a 38-year-old man, was taken to hospital.

He was later taken to the State Criminal Police Office along with his 48-year-old driver, who reportedly did not have a driving licence. - BERNAMA-DPA
