SHAH ALAM - Toh Wen Hui, a 34-year-old real estate agent and treasurer of Johor DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY), was found dead in his car in Melaka on Apr 9.

It was reported that Toh was found unresponsive in a car outside a hotel in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.

Online portal The Rakyat Post reported that police by the police revealed that Toh had been under severe emotional strain due to mounting financial debts, particularly a RM700,000 sum he allegedly owed a customer.

His family reportedly said that they had already managed to settle RM200,000 of the debt, but the pressure on Toh remained immense.

In what would become a final and heartbreaking moment, Toh reportedly made a distressing call to his mother from a hotel in Negeri Sembilan, where he opened up about his internal struggles and fears surrounding his financial obligations.

Alarmed by the call, his family used the vehicle tracking technology to trace his whereabouts.

Upon discovering that his car was in Melaka, they alerted relatives nearby, who in turn contacted the authorities.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said a report was lodged by a woman who was Toh’s cousin after she located his vehicle.

At 10.37pm, the Fire and Rescue Department received an urgent call reporting someone locked inside a car.

A team of six firefighters was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Toh inside the locked vehicle.

Despite successfully unlocking the car, emergency personnel could only confirm the worst, Toh had already passed away.

Police investigations have since ruled out any criminal elements, classifying the case as a sudden death.

Toh’s passing has deeply affected those who knew him. Bakri Member of Parliament (MP) Tan Hong Pin took to Facebook to express his sorrow.

“He was always optimistic, cheerful, passionate and filled with positive energy,” he said.

DAPSY Johor also posted a heartfelt message: “Shocking news this morning, good friends of Johor Youth League. Rest in peace.”

Meanwhile, DAP Johor Bahru 006 in a Facebook post announced Toh’s passing and that they would go to the funeral house to pay their last respects.

Toh’s funeral is being held over four days at the Nirvana Memorial Center in Skudai, Johor, giving friends, colleagues and community members the chance to honour his memory and say their goodbyes.
