Police said the victim who was offered traditional healing services had handed over cash and jewellery to the suspect, amounting to an estimated total loss of RM445,000.

TANGKAK - An elderly man in Johor was swindled out of about RM445,000 by a bomoh (shaman) who claimed he could cure mysterious, supernatural problems affecting the victim’s family.
District police chief Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib said the police received a report from the 70-year-old man on Monday.
"The victim who was offered traditional healing services, had handed over cash and jewellery to the suspect, amounting to an estimated total loss of RM445,000.
"The cash and jewellery were handed over between March and April 2024.
"The victim believed the treatment was genuine and legitimate because the suspect was an acquaintance," he said in a statement.
He added that the case is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping, or a fine, if convicted.
Roslam also advised the public to always be cautious and not to be easily deceived. He urged people to conduct prior checks on any offer as a precautionary measure.
