SHAH ALAM - The Selangor government will start distributing three months of rental aid this Thursday to 396 heads of households whose homes were damaged in the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights on April 1.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance aims to support those affected as they begin to recover from the tragic incident.

“This Thursday, we will call all the affected residents and begin handing over the rent for the first three months.

“We have identified 396 heads of households who are eligible to apply for this assistance and will be inviting them,” he said during a press conference held after the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) and Nestlé Malaysia at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) earlier today.

Amirudin also mentioned that the financial aid would be deposited straight into the residents’ bank accounts, which was why they were being called in for a briefing and to receive the cash assistance.

He added that Thursday’s session would also serve to update affected residents on the upcoming house repair project, with further details to be announced soon after the meeting.

“We will also explain to them how the house repair project will be implemented, as we have already decided on three categories. I will announce the details after the presentation to them, probably this Thursday, as we are calling all of them on that day.

“We need to coordinate because the locations are different; one in a village area and another in a residential housing area, so the approaches will differ and this requires about a week to two weeks to reassess,” Amirudin said.

He further shared that the state government has submitted its proposal for house repairs and is now awaiting the Cabinet’s decision.

As of now, 81 homes have been classified as completely destroyed with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent, another 81 homes sustained partial damage, 57 homes were affected but not burnt and 218 homes, including those in Kampung Tengah, Puchong, remained unaffected.
