BN win seen as PN victory, blocks BN's 18,000 vote target
Ayer Kuning result a positive sign for GE16, says PN

TAPAH – Perikatan Nasional (PN) described the Ayer Kuning by-election result as a major success, having blocked Barisan Nasional’s (BN) bid to secure their targeted 18,000 votes.
Perak Pas election director Mohd Fakhrudin Abd Aziz said that despite contesting independently, PN maintained its vote strength even against the combined machinery of the state and federal governments.
"Based on the early results, we can estimate a majority of around 4,000 votes, far from BN’s target of 18,000 votes as previously mentioned.
"On paper, they already had 15,000 votes and were hoping to add up to 18,000, but they only managed to get 10,000 votes," he said when met at PN’s command centre in Ayer Kuning here on Saturday.
Fakhrudin suggested that the factor of young voters not returning to vote due to financial constraints, lack of leave and recent return from the festive season also impacted the voter turnout for this by-election.
He stated that the achievement remained a source of pride, as PN successfully denied BN an easy victory in one of their strongholds.
"Ayer Kuning serves as a model of BN’s strength. Its parliamentary seat is held by MIC, the Chenderiang state seat by MCA and Ayer Kuning by Umno.
"Despite the challenges, PN managed to hold on and this sends a positive signal for the upcoming 16th General Election," he said.
