KAJANG - Lawyers representing national winger and Selangor FC player Faisal Halim have urged the authorities to conduct further investigations into the acid attack case involving their client in May 2024.

According to representatives from the legal firm Tetuan Mohd Ashraf, Nik Zarith & Co, Nik Zarith Nik Moustpha and Mohd Haijan Omar, several proactive measures have been taken since the investigation began to ensure that the case receives appropriate attention.

They said that among the actions taken were fully cooperating with the police and submitting requests for a thorough investigation to be conducted.

“We have also sent several letters to relevant parties including the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Dewan Negara Speaker, the Home Ministry and the Attorney-General’s Chambers urging that the investigation into this case be monitored and prioritised,” they said.

The lawyers representing the national player, also known as Mickey, were met by reporters at the Tetuan Mohd Ashraf, Nik Zarith & Co office in Kajang on Thursday.

However, the law firm said they had received a letter from the Attorney-General’s Chambers indicating that the case had been classified as “No Further Action” (NFA).

The decision was made based on findings that the police could not detect any leads linking any individuals to the attack as suspects.

“We are extremely disappointed with the outcome of the investigation. Therefore, we will continue discussions with Faisal Halim to determine further action,” they said.

Previously, the acid attack on Faisal Halim sparked concern among the public and local football fans, who hoped for justice to be served for the victim.

On May 5, 2024, Faisal Halim, along with his wife and child, was heading to their car after leaving a shopping mall in Kota Damansara.

A man wearing a face mask approached them and said “good luck” before throwing a liquid, believed to be acid, at Faisal.

The attack caused fourth-degree burns on Faisal’s neck, shoulders, arms, and chest. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and underwent several surgeries, including skin grafts.

Following the incident, police arrested several suspects in connection with the case. A man in his 20s was detained on May 6, 2024, followed by another suspect in his late 30s on May 7, 2024.

Although several individuals were arrested and questioned, the motive behind the attack has yet to be determined.

Police has carried out a thorough investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage and recording witness statements.

At the same time, the attack on Faisal Halim shocked Malaysia’s football community. It occurred during the same period as other violent incidents involving local footballers, including attacks on Akhyar Rashid and Safiq Rahim.

In response to these incidents, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the Malaysian Football League (MFL) have stepped up security measures for players and team officials.

Several clubs have also advised their players to take additional safety precautions, including considering hiring personal bodyguards.
