SHAH ALAM – MCA Youth is calling for a relentless hunt for the masterminds behind the assault of a witness in the Penang undersea tunnel corruption trial. The witness was reportedly attacked at his residence.

MCA Youth Information Chief Neow Choo Seong said this action is crucial to prevent incidents like the case of the late Teoh Beng Hock from recurring.

In a Facebook post, Neow expressed shock over the media reports, which were confirmed by Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar.

He said it signals that the safety of Malaysians is at a worrying level, especially when it involves high-profile political leaders and prominent figures.

Neow also drew a parallel to the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel case, where on Oct 5, 2021, another prosecution witness was found dead after allegedly falling from his condominium.

“Once again, it must be stressed that this matter is very serious and cannot be taken lightly, as it concerns human safety and lives.

“Is there something suspicious in this case?," he wrote.

On Wednesday, Sinar reported that a witness in the corruption trial was attacked by a group of individuals at his home. Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar said police received a report about the incident at 7.10am.

It is understood that the victim, a businessman, suffered injuries to his mouth and wrist, while two of his security guards were tied up by the attackers.

Neow went on to say that Malaysia is a country governed by the rule of law and anyone who commits an offence will not escape punishment.

He urged the public to give authorities, particularly the country’s security forces, sufficient space to carry out their duties.

“I am confident that the country’s security personnel will hunt down the perpetrators to the ends of the earth, bring them to justice and ensure they receive the appropriate punishment,” he said.
