Family lawyers still in the dark on identities of individuals to be charged in Zara Qairina case
The lawyers said they were referring to the Attorney General’s recent announcement regarding the prosecution of the suspects involved in the incident.

SHAH ALAM – The legal team representing the mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir revealed that they have yet to be informed of the identities of those who will be charged in connection with the teenager’s bullying case at the Kota Kinabalu Court this Wednesday.
In a joint statement released on Monday, the lawyers said they were referring to the Attorney General’s recent announcement regarding the prosecution of the suspects involved in the incident.

“As of the release of this media statement, we do not know the identities of the individuals who will be charged in court or the provisions of law that will be applied in the charges,” the statement read.
Despite this uncertainty, the lawyers welcomed the Attorney General’s move, noting that it was consistent with the recommendations they had submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers through a press statement dated Aug 14.
“Since the Director of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department has disclosed that there is evidence pointing towards bullying before the incident involving Zara, prosecution must be carried out against the individuals named in that evidence under Section 507D(2) of the Penal Code.
“We hope that prosecution against those linked to Zara Qairina’s death will be made under this provision, allowing for heavier penalties to be imposed in the event of conviction,” they said.
The joint statement was signed by lawyers Hamid Ismail, Shahlan Jufri, Rizwandean M Borhan, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Mohd Syarulnizam Mohd Salleh, and Farrah Nasser.
