KOTA KINABALU - Whispers are growing louder that Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor may drop a political bombshell by announcing the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Sept 19.
The speculation, laced with rumours and chatter in coffee shops across the state, was floated by Parti Gemilang Anak Sabah (GAS) President Datuk Jismit Japong.
“I’ve been informed that the Chief Minister will make the announcement on September 19 at 4pm. How true it is, I can’t confirm,” he told reporters during a press conference held in conjunction with GAS’s Supreme Council meeting here on Sunday.
Pressed further on how he got wind of the supposed date, Jismit revealed that the “news” has already spread among the people of Sabah.
“Even in coffee shops, people are talking about it. They told me the Chief Minister will make the announcement at 4pm on the 19th. At 2pm, they say he will meet the Yang di-Pertua Negeri (TYT),” he claimed.

Meanwhile, Jismit said GAS will launch its party in Beaufort on Sept 21, where between 300 and 500 people were expected to attend. The party will also unveil its manifesto during the event.
“There may be some logic to it, he meets the TYT at 2pm, discussions happen, and if Tun agrees to the dissolution, then at 4pm the announcement is made. I don’t know how true it is,” he added with a hint of intrigue.
Jismit said at least 10 manifesto pledges will be revealed, alongside the announcement of 55 GAS candidates for the state election.
The party’s official launch was also expected to extend to the East Coast, although the date has yet to be confirmed.
