Teen remanded four days over alleged sexual harassment incident in school

The boy was arrested the same day for allegedly harassing a 15-year-old female student last Monday.

SABAK BERNAM - Police have arrested a 14-year-old student by the roadside at Jalan Parit 1 Barat, Sungai Besar, after he was suspected of being involved in a sexual harassment incident against his schoolmate at a secondary school, here.

Sabak Bernam district police chief Superintendent Md Yusof Ahmad said the boy was arrested the same day for allegedly harassing a 15-year-old female student last Monday.

He said police took immediate action and detained the suspect soon after the report was lodged.

Md Yusof said the incident, which occurred around 9.30am, took place during recess within the school compound.

He added that the victim later came forward to lodge a police report after the incident.

He said the suspect has been remanded for four days until Friday to assist in the investigation into the case.

“The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (SOACA) 2017, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction,” he said.
