‘Miles of Courage’ run spreads hope, awareness for breast cancer

THE Avisena Pink Fun Run 2025 took centre stage this year with a powerful message, raising awareness on breast cancer prevention and the importance of early detection through community movement and solidarity.
More than just a fun run, the initiative by Avisena Healthcare aimed to remind the public that small steps can lead to life-saving awareness.
The event, held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, encouraged participants to embrace healthier lifestyles while supporting patients and individuals at risk.

Held on Oct 26 at Taman Botani Negara, Shah Alam, the five-kilometre run drew over 1,000 participants, each taking part under this year’s theme, “Miles of Courage.”
Avisena Healthcare’s Group chief executive officer (CEO), Elina Nadia Omar, said the campaign goes beyond fitness, it represents a shared mission to save lives through awareness and education.
“Avisena Pink Fun Run 2025 is not just a leisure event, but a campaign that reminds us that early detection of breast cancer can save lives.
“Through small steps like this, we are collectively building a healthier and more resilient community,” she said.
The event celebrated unity, resilience and hope among survivors, families and healthcare advocates.
Also present at the event were members of Avisena Healthcare’s senior management and strategic partners dedicated to promoting women’s health and wellness.
Throughout the morning, participants joined free breast self-examination sessions conducted by the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), interactive talks on early detection and various health-focused activities designed to empower women with knowledge and confidence.

“We want every participant to take home not just the running experience, but also a deeper understanding of why regular check-ups and personal health awareness are so important.
“Breast cancer requires knowledge, early action and continuous support,” Elina said.
She further highlighted the group's commitment to women’s health aligns with its long-term development strategy, which includes the upcoming new wing of Avisena Specialist Hospital Shah Alam, expected to be completed by 2027.
The new facility will feature Shah Alam’s first comprehensive Oncology Centre, offering chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and advanced surgical treatment, a milestone that reinforces the group’s mission to expand access to quality care while strengthening Malaysia’s position in medical tourism.
Elina said this is the very spirit behind the Avisena Pink Fun Run 2025, bringing the community together in solidarity, empathy, and courage to stand up for women’s health.
“We believe that women’s health awareness does not start in hospitals alone, but within the community itself,” she added.
