KUALA LUMPUR - A drug syndicate that turned a condominium car park in Jalan Klang Lama into a base for marijuana transactions was busted after police arrested two individuals in a targeted raid last weekend.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the operation was carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters at 3.20pm on Saturday, following intelligence gathered on ongoing drug distribution activities.

An inspection of the Proton Exora vehicle used by the suspects led to the discovery of marijuana buds weighing 18.5kg, with a total seizure value of RM553,500.

“We arrested a local man and woman, aged 47 and 56 respectively, in the condominium parking area.

“An inspection of a Proton Exora vehicle used by the suspects led to the discovery of suspected "bunga ganja" (marijuana buds) weighing 18.5 kilogrammes, with an estimated total value of RM553,500,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Fadil said the seized drugs could have affected around 37,000 individuals if they had made their way into the market. He said investigations revealed that the syndicate had been active since August, distributing drugs throughout the Klang Valley.

Although urine tests for both suspects returned negative results, background checks found that the male suspect had two previous criminal records under Section 380 of the Penal Code and Section 29 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

“Police also seized RM250 in cash under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988. The suspects have been remanded for six days, from Sunday to Friday, to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Fadil commended the success as the outcome of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from the public in tackling drug distribution networks in Kuala Lumpur.

“The public can share information related to such activities through the Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department hotline at 012-208 7222,” he added.
