KUALA LUMPUR - The 2025/2026 Northeast Monsoon (MTL) is expected to begin this Thursday (Nov 13) and continue until March next year, with five to seven episodes of continuous heavy rain predicted to occur during the period.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said prolonged heavy rain over several days could lead to flooding, particularly in areas near rivers and low-lying regions.

"Strong and continuous northeasterly winds during this period may also cause rough seas and an increased risk of sea level rise in the South China Sea,” he said in a statement today.
