KUALA TERENGGANU – The life story of national track cycling champion Datuk Azizulhasni Awang reaches international audiences as a documentary titled The Pulse, set to stream on Netflix.

Terengganu Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Executive Councillor Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said the documentary is produced by a local production company that chose the Terengganu-born athlete as its main subject.

He claimed that Azizulhasni, affectionately known as Jijoe, was selected because of his extraordinary journey as an athlete who recovered successfully after heart surgery, becoming an inspiration to many.

“The title The Pulse symbolises his spirit which never stops in the pursuit of cycling.

“This documentary will show how he continues to fight, recover after surgery, and face numerous challenges throughout his career,” he said during the State Legislative Assembly session at Wisma Darul Iman on Wednesday.

Hishamuddin also stated the documentary will include experiences such as Azizulhasni continuing to race even after being impaled by a wooden object, his heart surgery and his pursuit of the Olympic stage despite setbacks.

He added that Azizulhasni's extraordinary fighting spirit is the main pillar of this documentary.

The production is on schedule and is expected to be completed and released in the third quarter of 2026.

Hishamuddin added that the project not only honours Azizulhasni’s achievements but also highlights Terengganu as a state producing world-class athletes.

He said the state government supports the effort because, in addition to recognising Jijoe’s contributions, it also brings benefits to the state.

He added that if the project is featured on Netflix, it could have a significant impact and introduce Terengganu to a global audience.

Terengganu is known as a powerhouse in extreme sports, particularly cycling and the documentary is expected to inspire young athletes.

He said that if Jijoe could overcome such significant challenges, other athletes should also embody the same spirit.
