Selangor guarantees temporary housing via Smart Rent Scheme for all Kampung Papan settlers
The scheme will provide affordable rental options for those who need assistance.

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor government has reaffirmed that all residents of Kampung Papan affected by the ongoing clearance works will receive temporary housing through the Smart Rent Scheme, ensuring no one is left without shelter.
The scheme will provide affordable rental options for those who need assistance.

Selangor Executive Councillor for Housing and Culture, Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said this assurance reflects the state’s commitment to delivering a comprehensive, fair and humane solution to urban settlers who have faced challenges for more than 25 years.
He added that the administration, led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, is continuing to refine the most suitable approach while prioritising the residents’ welfare and planning for the area’s future development.
“To ensure that the settlers’ welfare continues to be protected throughout the resolution process, the state government is providing temporary housing through the Smart Rent Scheme. No settlers will be left without a place to live.
“The Smart Rent Scheme is provided at affordable rental rates for those in need, while the permanent housing project is being finalised.
“The state government’s commitment is to ensure a fair, planned and humane resolution while ensuring that the area’s development aligns with state housing and planning policies,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The situation in Kampung Papan became tense on Wednesday when clearance works were carried out on several homes.

Police personnel, including members of the Light Strike Force (LSF), were stationed at the site to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that 14 individuals, believed to include members of non-governmental organisations, were arrested in relation to the commotion during the clearance operation. As of Thursday, the arrests involved 11 men and three women.
