Hannah expressed concern over the negativity and speculation circulating online about potential medal outcomes, emphasising that such comments can be discouraging for athletes already under significant pressure.

She called for unity and positive reinforcement, especially as Malaysia is sending one of its largest contingents to the regional event.

“Our athletes have trained tirelessly for months in preparation for the SEA Games. As we prepare one of the largest contingents ever sent to Thailand, it is important for the nation to send them our support, encouragement, and prayers.

“It has been disheartening to see negative comments and criticism, especially when people speculate about medal targets even before the athletes compete. Everyone must remember that no one wants those medals more than the athletes themselves.

“They train relentlessly, investing countless hours of sweat and tears. I am absolutely confident that they want to win, not only for the country, but also for themselves and their families.

“I urge all Malaysians to stay positive and offer encouragement, especially on social media where every athlete can easily read what is said. At the same time, athletes must also learn to filter what they read, switch off and focus on giving their best,” she said.

According to Hannah, the Olympic Council Malaysia (OCM), the Youth and Sports Ministry, the government and supporters recognise that victory lies not only in medals, but in effort and dedication.

The Minister also broadened her message to all young Malaysians, encouraging them to see effort, not just outcomes, as a source of pride.

“I want every young Malaysian to know whether they sit for an exam, join a debate, compete in sports, or take part in any talent event; giving their absolute best is already something their families, teachers and supporters are proud of. Medals will always be a bonus,” she added.

Hannah delivered the remarks during the announcement of Skechers as the official footwear partner for Team Malaysia at the 33rd SEA Games.

The event took place at Skechers Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) earlier this afternoon.
