SHAH ALAM – Police said the attack on sports journalist Haresh Deol in Bangsar on Tuesday may have stemmed from personal matters, as investigations are still underway.

Brickfields District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook revealed that early findings suggested a personal motive behind the incident and urged the public to avoid speculation while the probe continues.

Hoo confirmed that a 37-year-old local man, who is unemployed, was arrested in connection with the incident.

The suspect was detained at Taman Ikan Emas at around 2am on Wednesday and remanded for three days to facilitate investigations under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.

On Tuesday, police received a report from Haresh, who also works for a news portal, at the Bangsar Police Booth at 4pm.

The incident reportedly occurred on Jalan Maarof near the parking area of a shopping centre while Haresh was walking along the pavement towards Jalan Telawi.

“The case is still under investigation and the public is urged not to speculate until the investigation is complete,” Hoo said in a statement earlier today.

Authorities are continuing their inquiries to determine the full circumstances behind the attack.
