Afgan lights up KL with a masterclass in fan connection
Attended by nearly 3,000 people, the Jakarta-born singer performed 25 hit songs, including 10 new tracks from his latest album ‘Retrospektif’, released last month.

KUALA LUMPUR - Keeping his promise to create a more intimate experience with his fans, Indonesian pop star Afgan lit up Kuala Lumpur once again through the ‘Afgan Retrospektif Showcase’ at Zepp Kuala Lumpur last week, delivering a relaxed performance that made the audience feel as though they were part of a jam session in the singer’s own living room.
Attended by nearly 3,000 people, the Jakarta-born singer performed 25 hit songs, including 10 new tracks from his latest album ‘Retrospektif’, released last month.
Taking the stage at exactly 8.30pm with ‘Misteri Dunia’, the 36-year-old greeted the crowd and expressed his excitement to be back in Kuala Lumpur.
"Hello Malaysia, how are you? … Thank you, guys for being here. It means a lot to me. I love you so much. My Malaysian fans are the best,” he said, greeted by loud cheers.
With the showcase held in conjunction with his new album, his Malaysian fans are among the first to hear the new songs performed live.
"’Retrospektif’ is my first Indonesian album after seven years… I’m gonna sing all my songs in my new album tonight for the first time ever, in Kuala Lumpur… even Jakarta hasn’t had this yet. That’s how special you are to me,” he said.
Accompanied by the Gandarians band, the night continued with songs such as ‘Silakan’, ‘Pesan Cinta’, ‘Wajahmu Mengalihkan Duniaku’ and ‘Sebentar’.
Performing at Zepp Kuala Lumpur for the first time, Afgan said he loved the atmosphere. The night was made even more meaningful with the presence of his parents Loyd Yahya and Lola Purnama.
Despite the relaxed setting, his vocal strength stood out. Even while seated, Afgan delivered songs such as ‘The One That Got Away’, ‘Entah’ and ‘Kunci Hati’ with ease.
Staying true to the intimate concept, his friendly personality shone through as he entertained various fan requests, from taking selfies and reading message cards to performing requested songs, including ‘Ada’ and ‘Pendam’.
He continued to delight the crowd with songs such as ‘Terima Kasih Cinta’, ‘Tak Ada Rencana (Kujatuh Cinta)’, ‘Knock Me Out’ and ‘Masa Iya’.
After a short break, Afgan returned to the stage with ‘Dia Dia Dia’, ‘Kepastian’ and ‘Bukan Cinta Biasa’, before paying tribute to Datuk Sheila Majid with a heartfelt rendition of ‘Ku Mohon’.
The momentum rose as the crowd sang along through a string of favourites, including ‘Kacamata’, ‘Jodoh Pasti Bertemu’, ‘Untukmu Aku Bertahan’, ‘Setia Menunggu’ and ‘Ku Dengannya Kau Dengan Dia’.
The nearly two-and-a-half-hour showcase ended with a final set of crowd favourites - ‘Peluk’, ‘Sampai Jumpa’, ‘Bawalah Aku Pergi’, ‘Lenggang Puspita’ and ‘Panah Asmara’.
Throughout the night, Afgan appeared completely at ease, moving energetically and engaging with fans at every turn. His consistent energy gave the show a refreshing feel, making it a memorable experience for his fans.
"Seeing your faces touches me. Hearing you sing along touches me, too. I hope I can keep singing for all of you until the end of my days. Thank you so much,” he said before leaving the stage at around 11pm. - BERNAMA
