Political crisis grips Perlis as eight state reps allegedly submit SDs to Palace
Sources allege that the assemblymen have formalised their positions through statutory declarations (SDs) submitted to the Palace, placing Shukri’s leadership under significant pressure.

KANGAR – Political uncertainty has gripped Perlis following claims that eight state representatives have allegedly withdrawn their support for Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, casting doubt on the stability of the state administration.
Sources allege that the assemblymen have formalised their positions through statutory declarations (SDs) submitted to the Palace, placing Shukri’s leadership under significant pressure.
"The outcome now depends on whether Shukri chooses to resign," a source stated, adding that most of the assemblymen involved have already made their positions clear.
The crisis is believed to stem from internal disputes within Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Perlis, including strained relations between the Menteri Besar and several elected representatives from the ruling coalition's component parties.
To date, neither Shukri nor the state PN leadership has issued an official statement to confirm or deny the allegations.
However, Perlis Pas Commissioner Ahmad Ali on Friday urged all party members in the state to provide their full and unwavering support to Shukri.
In a separate development, Shukri was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur on Monday for medical examination after returning from an overseas trip.
He reportedly complained of chest pain and is currently said to be in stable condition.
Leadership challenges are not new to Shukri’s administration.
In 2023, Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah (Bersatu) publicly called for his resignation after failing to be appointed as an executive councillor.
Similar speculation surfaced in 2024 regarding Shukri’s position, though the state Pas leadership dismissed those reports as baseless rumours.
