Pas ready to stand with Umno in MN – Shahidan
He said the party is ready to stand together with Umno through Muafakat Nasional.
KUALA LUMPUR – A call by Umno Youth to once again strengthen the unity between the two parties for the sake of religion, race and the Malay community has been well received by Pas.
In a Facebook post, Perlis Pas Deputy Commissioner III Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said that the party is ready to stand together with Umno through Muafakat Nasional.
“Akmal Saleh (Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Mohamad Akmal Saleh), Pas is ready to stand with Umno in Muafakat Nasional. Greetings to DS (Datuk Seri) Zahid Hamidi (Umno president),” he wrote briefly on Saturday.
Earlier, at the Umno Youth Special Convention, Akmal urged the party to withdraw from the Unity Government and also expressed a proposal to unite with Pas.
He said the intention behind the proposed unity was to ensure that Malay political strength continues to be preserved amid the increasingly challenging national political landscape.
The convention, themed Umno’s Direction in the Unity Government was attended by about 2,000 members who voiced their views openly and boldly, including reassessing the party’s current position within the government.
