KUALA LUMPUR - Umno announced today the official closure of the 'Najib Razak Solidarity Fund’ special account, following the receipt of contributions that met the target and were deemed sufficient.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party had also completed the full payment process to the Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning.

He explained that the fund, launched on Sept 18 to assist former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, was established to accept public contributions through crowdfunding.

"Umno hereby officially closes the 'Najib Razak Solidarity Fund' special account which was created to receive public contributions as there is no longer a need for crowdfunding for this purpose," he said in a media statement today.

It was reported that Najib has settled the RM50 million fine imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd misappropriation case, with the payment made at the High Court’s Criminal Registry office here today.

Ahmad Lutfi Azhar, a special officer to Najib, arrived at the court at 11.30 am to handle the payment and complete the necessary administrative procedures to finalise the transaction.

The payment was one of the conditions of the conditional pardon granted by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia on Sept 18 which allows Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028. - BERNAMA
