Shuib fined RM10,000 for promoting vape

According to the charge, Shuib was accused of promoting smoking products, which violated Section 9(1) of Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024.

PUTRAJAYA - Actor and comedian Shuib was fined RM10,000 by the magistrate’s court here today, for promoting tobacco products, two years ago.

Shuib, whose full name is Shahmira Muhamad, 42, as the person being summoned (OKS), was sentenced after pleading guilty to a charge read out before Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah.

The court ordered him to serve a one-year jail term if he failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge, Shuib was accused of promoting smoking products, which violated Section 9(1) of Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024.

The law prohibits taking part in any activity that promotes tobacco products, smoking substances or substitute tobacco products, which is intended or likely to encourage people to smoke or be promoted as a quit-smoking product.

He committed the offence through a YouTube podcast link at 4.26pm on Oct 22, 2024, as read by the Health Ministry's Public Health Legal and Inspection Sector.

The charge framed under Section 9(3) of the act is punishable under Section 9(3)(a)(i) of the same act which carries a fine of up to RM20,000 or an imprisonment for a maximum of one year, or both, if convicted.
