KUALA LUMPUR — Umno has not received any motion calling for the party to withdraw from the Unity Government to be debated at the Umno General Assembly 2025, which will be held from Jan 14 to 17.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said none of the 662 motions submitted to the party headquarters touched on the issue.

"Umno is a key party in forming this government. However, as always, we have never stopped state representatives from submitting any motion, as it is the party’s tradition.

"Spokespersons and party wings represent their respective states and divisions. Issues may be raised, but at the Umno headquarters level, we have never blocked it.

"This is a platform that should be fully used by the leadership and party members. The General Assembly has traditionally been a space for reflection and self-assessment. We do not reject motions," he said.

He was speaking at a press conference held in conjunction with the Umno General Assembly at Menara Dato’ Onn here on Friday.

However, Asyraf said the most prominent and frequently submitted motion from Umno divisions was a call for justice and a full pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

When asked about representatives from coalition parties within the unity government who may attend the assembly, Asyraf said no invitations were sent as the main focus this year was on debating motions and addressing internal party issues.

He said it was important for members and delegates to speak openly and express their feelings among fellow party members.

A total of 6,412 delegates are registered to attend the assembly, including 1,995 from Wanita Umno, 1,173 from the Umno Youth wing and 1,146 from Puteri Umno.

Based on the 662 motions received, Perak Umno submitted the highest number of proposals, followed by Johor, Selangor, Kedah, Sabah, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.

All Umno state chapters submitted motions, while only 16 out of 191 divisions did not put forward any proposals.
