KUALA LUMPUR - Indonesian pop bands Radja and Wali proved their staying power by captivating more than 5,000 fans at the nearly three-hour RadjaWali Concert held at Idea Live Arena on Saturday night.

The audience’s enthusiastic response throughout the show underscored the enduring appeal of both groups, despite their long-standing association with the 2000s era.

Radja kicked off the night at 8.55pm with ‘Tulus’, before rolling out a string of popular songs their fans are familiar with.

The band, comprising Ian Kasela, Moldyansyah Mulyadi and Seno Aji Wibowo, created a more intimate atmosphere when vocalist Ian stepped off the stage to greet fans, including those who had travelled from Singapore and Brunei.

"What song do you want next? Something loud? Or something energetic?” Ian asked the audience.

Radja performed over 13 songs, including ‘Benci Bilang Cinta’, ‘Angin’, ‘Bulan’ and ‘Jujur’, reinforcing their status as a band that remains relevant today.

The stage was then taken over by Wali, who performed without their main guitarist, Apoy. Despite his absence, the band drew thunderous cheers when they appeared at 10.55pm, welcomed by a crowd largely made up of Generation Y and Z fans.

Vocalist Faank explained that Apoy was absent due to health issues and asked the entire hall to pray for their bandmate’s speedy recovery.

The mood turned emotional when Faank struggled to hold back tears while performing ‘Doaku Untukmu Sayang’, earning loud applause and cheers from the audience.

The energy surged once again with the song ‘Emang Dasar’, as fans sang along from start to finish.

However, the excitement was cut short when ‘Ada Gajah di Balik Batu’ was announced as the final song of the night, leaving several other hit tracks such as ‘Cari Jodoh’, ‘Yank’, ‘Aku Bukan Bang Toyib’ and ‘Tobat Maksiat’ unperformed.

A representative of the concert organisers then announced that their allotted time at the venue had come to an end. Initially, the audience thought the announcement was a gimmick, but time constraints forced the concert to end exactly at midnight, leaving some fans feeling unsatisfied.

Overall, Wali entertained the crowd with 11 songs, including ‘Cari Berkah’, ‘Nenekku Pahlawan’, ‘Doaku Untukmu Sayang’, ‘Baik Baik Sayang’ and ‘Orang Bilang’. - BERNAMA
