PUTRAJAYA — Investigations involving several senior officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) have been classified as high-profile cases and are being prioritised for swift completion, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said.

Azam said MACC has taken full responsibility to ensure the investigations are concluded as quickly as possible, given the sensitivity of the case and the public’s interest in the matter.

“Considering the sensitivity of the case and the importance of the information to the public, I humbly state that it is our responsibility to complete this investigation as soon as possible,” he said at a press conference at the MACC headquarters here today.

He stressed that throughout the investigation process, he has not received any instructions or directives from any party, whether stakeholders or members of the public.

“Every case has its own unique characteristics and cannot be treated the same, therefore investigative approaches differ depending on the needs of the case.

“In this instance, the responsibility lies with me, and I have personally classified it as a high-profile case requiring urgent action, as the public needs to know the true status of this case,” he said.

Azam noted that the frequency of enquiries from the media regarding the investigation’s progress reflects the level of public attention the case has attracted and reflects the need for it to be handled promptly.

However, he clarified that no specific timeline could be set for the completion of the investigation, whether within two or three months.

On cooperation from parties involved, Azam confirmed that all parties, including the Defence Ministry and members of the public, have provided good cooperation.

“I would like to express my appreciation to all parties who have cooperated in assisting this investigation,” he said.

Azam also revealed that MACC has received various inputs from whistleblowers, including from external parties, who have channelled information related to the case.

“Some of the information is accurate and some is not, but part of it has nonetheless assisted the ongoing investigation,” he said.

He emphasised that MACC will continue to conduct the investigation professionally and transparently in accordance with existing laws.
