KEMAMAN – A five-year-old boy has died after choking on a rambutan seed during an incident at a house in Felda Neram 1 on Monday.
Kemaman District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli stated that the incident occurred at approximately 1.30pm while the child was eating the fruit with his six-year-old sister.
According to the police, the victim’s sister had peeled the rambutan for the victim and the two siblings were eating together at the time.
“While they were eating, the victim suddenly began choking. It is believed that a rambutan seed became lodged in his throat,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.
The child was rushed to Kemaman Hospital for emergency treatment but was tragically pronounced dead at about 2.50pm the same day.
“A post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was choking.
“Medical professionals also found a rambutan seed still lodged in the victim’s airway,” Supt Mohd Razi added.
