Police detain doctor suspected of murdering wife, four-year-old son in Johor Baru

JOHOR BAHRU - Police have arrested a doctor suspected of killing his wife and a four-year-old son at their residence in Bandar Dato' Onn here, on Dec 31 last year.
Johor police chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the victim, a 36-year-old accountant, was found dead with cuts on her neck and the boy had bruises on his face, believed to have been caused by being choked at about 8.20am.
He said both victims were confirmed dead at the scene and were taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital here for a post-mortem.
"The post-mortem results found that the woman's cause of death was asphyxia-related, while her son was believed to have been smothered," he said in a statement today.
Ab Rahaman said acting on information and the results of the investigation, his party had arrested a 33-year-old doctor who was the victim's husband, on Jan 3.
"We also seized a knife with a sheath and a pillow to assist in the investigation. The suspect has been remanded for 13 days from Jan 4 until tomorrow.
"The results of a check found that the suspect has no previous criminal record and the initial urine screening test was also negative for drugs," he said.
He said the suspect would be charged at the Magistrate's Court here tomorrow under Section 302, Section 201 and Section 186 of the Penal Code.
"At the same time, we would like to advise the public not to make any speculation or spread unverified information that could affect the investigation and court proceedings," he said. - BERNAMA
